Cheap and fast.

I've ordered components to build a new PC from scratch, and I have received it in less than a week. I had a problem with a single item though, which wasn't shipped with the rest, for went out of stock right after I placed my order. I decided to call Direct Canada, and my call was answered instantly, no waiting. They canceled that item for me, gave me full refund, and I ordered another model.
So, in my experience, the service was good, shipping extremely fast, and they had the lowest prices I could find online or elsewhere. Also, getting free shipping was what motivated me to order there instead of their sister company NCIX.
It was my first time ordering for them and I definitely will order again.

Logitech Harmony 785

Comment:
DirectCanada posted this item, including photo, detailed specifications and pricing. They received several orders as reported in a thread on this board regarding the sale.
They proceed through their own multistep verification process, which according to their automated email included:
Order Received,
Price Verification,
Product Availability Verification,
Shipping Information Verification,
Credit Card Verification,
Payment Processing,
Order Processing, and
Shipping.
My order proceeded through all these stages and was shipped to me. Unfortunately, the wrong item was shipped - They shipped an inferior model (the 555). Should be no big deal, right?
I then received an email stating that the 785's that the supplier sent them had European power supplies so they were all being returned. Coincidentally (??) they had inadvertently sent out the 555's instead. I find their explanation lacks credibility in many ways. Why not notify the customers and offer to fill the order "as is" or to give a price to add a power converter for Euro to North American. They are only about $7 retail.... And how can it be pure coincidence that in the midst of all this, they "accidentally" shipped out the 555's, after realizing that they were not going to ship the 785's?
Multiple people reported the same problem in the thread here on RFD and called DirectCanada. They offered to accept the return of the inferior items and issue a refund.
I was disappointed not to receive the item as ordered. However, in reading their explanation, I can come to no logical conclusion other than that they fabricated the "supplier" story to shift the blame.
In reality, it is much more likely that they had a shipment of the 555, and someone accidentally put the 785 description up. I note that the "Manufacturer's Model Number" posted in their original listing is that of the 555, not the 785. This would explain why the price was so much better than everyone else, why they shipped the 555 and why they did not offer to send it "as is."
I would have had far more respect for a notice that there was an error in the listing. Very sorry. Cant fill the order. Will offer [credit/percent discount/shipping discount] on your next order for the inconvenience. I would have been disappointed, but they would have retained my respect and kept me as a customer.
After being offered such a blatantly false explanation in an effort to shift responsibility, I no longer trust them, nor would I recommend them to another.

Just the Facts.

Most of these reviews you read come with a lot of personal hyperbole. In mine I’m simply going to describe exactly how my order took place, the service I received and let you make the decision as to whether it’s the kind of service you would like or not. You don’t need my opinion, you need the info necessary to formulate your own.
I placed my order for 6 items (A Case, Motherboard, CPU, Hard Drive, RAM, and DVD Burner) on March 14th, a Sunday so it actually got processed on the 15th because the company doesn't process orders on weekends which I was aware of when I placed the order. I received an automatic order confirmation as well as my PayPal receipt indicating instant clearance (as I have a credit card as my backup fund source) within minutes of the purchase. I selected the free ground shipping option for orders of $300+ (My order was just under $450 Canadian)
My next communication was received a little over 24 hours later on the 15th and contained a PDF attachment of my invoice. About 2 minutes after that I received a message indicating that the
following steps in their process had been completed: Order Received, Price Verification, Shipping Info Verification, Payment Processing. This message also included a link which, when clicked took me to the company's website and showed me the current status of my order, Also it showed me that "Shipment 1" from the Vancouver processing center was pending and provided a tracking number for my shipment.
The next message I received was on the 17th and was an automated thank you note for shopping with the company and provided a link to Reseller Ratings for feedback. I decided to wait until the order had been completed so I could give accurate
feedback.
My package arrived in the early afternoon of March 23rd, however 2 items were not included: the Case and the Ram. I emailed the company's customer care department at 2:12pm my time (8:12am in the company's time zone) and received a reply at 8:58pm my time. The message indicated that the case had just been restocked and would be sent to me ASAP but that the RAM was on back order and that more had to be transferred in for me. The offer was made to me to void the memory and swap to a different one. (Please note that all items when ordered displayed "In Stock" when I made the purchase, in fact as far as I can tell the company's website won't let you order an item listed out of stock. Also nowhere on the site or any email I received mentioned that these 2 items were not included in the shipment)
I responded to the offer by requesting that another, less expensive ram be substituted and with the difference in price my shipping for it be upgraded to the air shipping deal so I could receive it quickly. This email was sent at 10:10pm my time on the 23rd The message in reply was received March 24th at 8:53pm my time and it stated that the original ram had now been stocked as well as the case and that both items "should be sent out to you shortly"
Using the company's website I noted that another shipment "Shipment 2" had been sent out on March 24th, but didn't tell me which item or if it was both. I emailed to ask March 25th at 10:30am my time and the reply came 2:12pm my time "Hello, it
appears it was the memory and we should be shipping the case shortly. Sorry for this delay. Cheers." The ram arrived early in the afternoon on March 30th.
Also on March 30th the case "Shipment 3" was shipped from Vancouver and it arrived early in the afternoon on April 7th, completing my order.
For reference as far as shipping times go I live in Halifax, NS.
Total days from order placed to order received: 24.
Total business days: 16 (Deliveries were not processed by the shipping company on weekends plus Good Friday and Easter Monday)

The SECOND BEST Canadian etailer!
By: RiP
Date: Dec 24, 2009
Comment:
I highly recommend them! If BestDirect does not have an item and DirectCanada does, then get it from DirectCanada. However, BestDirect and DirectCanada are my only two trusted etailers in Canada! I love the great shopping experience that they provide!
This company has it all, from best-of-class customer service (the supervisor, Brad, is a joy to deal with, does not waste time, gets straight to the point, and is really devoted to the customer's satisfaction; I absolutely loved dealing with him) to a massive stock of inventory (covering almost everything that NCIX sells, and then some exclusive stock) to the best prices in all of Canada (even better than BestDirect in some cases, and sometimes beats NCIX's sale prices) to fast order processing and shipping to numerous shipping options to quite everything else that you can think of!

Very Bad Experience

Comment:
DirectCanada has really dissapointed me. First I will start with the Facts:
I ordered a high demand video card on a Monday afternoon at around 3PM PST. The site had said in stock and would ship in 1-2 business days.
I told my friend about this and he also wanted this video card, so he ordered one around 7PM PST the same day. 4 hours after I did.
During the “processing time” I see that my order got delayed a little in the “checking availability” in the order tracking checklist. It was stuck there until Tuesday afternoon when it finally cleared and later that Tuesday, all the payments went through and my order was now one checkmark from being “shipped” The tracking information said that my item was fully processed and the shipment was in their warehouse 01, and shipping pending.
Wednesday comes along; nothing is changing on my tracking info. Usually the pending would change into a tracking number from Purolator or something. Nothing. I call up my friend and he said his was shipped to him and he had it in his hands that Wednesday afternoon. That confusing, we both live in the same city, both ordered it on the same day, yet mine never came in the mail. So I give it one more day thinking “maybe Purolator couldn’t get to my house and the shipping info wasn’t available for my order and not updated on the website”
This was not the case. Nothing came the next day. I email direct Canada from their support link on the website telling them of my concern and ETA of my shipment.
They respond with an email saying that the item I ordered was in high demand and sold out the day I ordered it and I will not be getting this video card for a while. Still confusing because how did my friend get it and I did not. My order was clearly made first, and the order numbers were 40 off, mine being 40 less.
It is Friday now, I’m emailing them to tell them to either cancel my order unless I can have my video card in on the weekend or on Monday. They email me Monday and say they cannot do that (obviously since I don’t have my video card) and they can “cancel my order at any time” and the reason why I didn’t get my item and my friend did was because my credit card had some delay. My credit card has been fine with all my online purchases, and if you remember when I was talking about the order tracking, the delay seemed to be on the “product availability” spot, and not my credit card payment. Anyways, I reply with a “please cancel my order then”. I get no response, and my Visa bill now has the amount charged on it dating last Tuesday.
I wait another day, still no response, so I email them again to cancel my order and to credit my visa. Still no response.
I don’t know if this is just an unlucky experience but I’ve never dealt with an online company which charges your credit card before the item is confirmed and in the shipping bay waiting to be shipped. I am especially pissed now because I hadn’t ordered the same video card from other online e-tailers because I had trusted DirectCanada with my order and now all the other e-tailers are sold out as well. Now I have no video card, my computer tower is sitting waiting for one that I’ve finally been able to get, shipping to my door hopefully today.
I would not recommend Direct Canada to anyone. They may have low prices, but just use their prices to Price Match with another company or something, stay away!!

Good prices, good selection, fast low cost shipping. Ordered a few times from this store, went well every time. Also check out Infonec, BestDirect, Dytronix, NCIX, CanadaComputer, XpressCanada for computer items. All are good, and offer good prices ... compare !
