Huge disapointment
By: jtheoret

Comment:
After placing an order for 4 small 1U systems, the shipping approval death march started. While everything checked out OK with the CC issuer for purchase authorization, newegg.ca was dead set against shipping to an address different than the CC billing address. Somehow, it is up to the customer to get this added to the CC issuer's approved shipping addresses(???). Of course, once the CC issuer approves the purchase (which they had promptly done), they couldn't care less where it gets shipped. No amount of email, chat & calls succeeded in getting this point through. At no time was there any willingness to demonstrate some common sense. Even the CC issuer was at a loss to explain such merchant behaviour.
Newegg.ca, you've been a huge disappointment. Not only will I not be returning, I'll make sure no one else has to put up with what I went through.
Vendor Response:
Dear Jtheoret,
First and foremost, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Its unacceptable that our customer service wasn't able to immediately resolve this issue for you upon first contact. Rest assured this situation will be reported to our service department to correct this delay in assistance.
Although not every online company verifies a shipping address, Newegg takes the security of our customers and potential customers very seriously. As listed on the checkout page prior to the orders submitting, we require the card holder contact the bank which verifies their identity and add the alternate address on file.
We can actually ship to any address, just as long as that address is on file with your credit card company...and it is not a Third Party shipper. The addresses do not have to match but they both must be on file with your credit card company. This proves beyond a reasonable doubt that the card holder has approved for a package to be sent to this location.
Make no mistake, our customers satisfaction is our number one priority and it's clear this wasn't met for you. Should you decide to place another order with Newegg.ca, I would be more than happy to personally assist you to ensure you receive the kind of service you deserve. Should you have any further questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact me at Maverick.B.Iniguez@newegg.com or call me at 1800-390-1119 ext 25062.
Thank you,

I always recommend them
By: Brent3

Comment:
I've been using NewEgg.ca for about a year and a half now and as of July 17 2010 I've had nothing but good dealings with them.
I've only ever had to RMA an item once, it was 8 gigs of ram on 4 sticks. The low power technology for it was new, CAS 7 1600 MHz running at a mere 1.35 V so I wasn't completely surprised when I had problems with it. It was on the 29th day that I had the item and the RMA process for it took about 10 seconds and everything was paid for by them.
I've dealt with them first hand for a number of years now and have recommended them multiple times to other people. Their online and customer service is excellent. I've made large purchases from over a dozen different retailers online and so far they are the best. I base this on a short to non-existent waiting time, quick email response (always within 24 hours), constant automated communication with me on my purchase status and they pick up the tab when a product is faulty with either a replacement or a full refund that includes the original shipping cost.
They usually ship the next day, better than CanadaComputers which has taken, so far, 7 days to ship and it was registered as 'in stock'. If NewEgg had the product, I would've ordered it from them. That's why they get a 4/5 for product selection, it is an Asus 5870 V2 and NewEgg didn't have any in stock while the other company had plenty, so did a number of other competitors.
Again, my only complaint is that their product selection can sometimes be thin and the prices, although usually the best, can occasionally be beaten by their competitors. Then again, their *competitors also neglect my emails and disconnect me when I phone them (not referencing the other company I had compared). The extra few bucks can be worth it, especially, for example, if it is RAM or a CPU and if there's ever going to be anything wrong with those items then it will happen within the first 30 days and you can use NewEgg's relatively painless RMA process. Although usually for RAM and CPU NewEgg already has the best prices.
My next story is a second hand experience, so take it as you may:
One of my clients had a ZOTAC motherboard for 45 days, 15 days beyond NewEgg's return policy. It had a well user documented defect on its NIC. The manufacturer was willing to take it back but wanted him to pay $45 for shipping, about half the cost of the mobo itself. He contacted NewEgg instead and they asked him some questions about it. He told them about the NIC and the manufacturer, it seems the rep understood the issue (again, well documented online by users) and RMAd it with everything paid for. I'm glad they did because it was his first time ordering from them and I was the one who recommended them to him.
Just thought I'd share my experiences with you since my company selection is also largely based on user reviews. Hope this helps.

Undependable

I placed my first and last order on Sunday night and received an email notifying me that my order would be shipped within 24-48 hours. On Monday my credit card was charged and I was expecting my order to be shipped on Tuesday but by Tuesday the status of my order still showed that I hadn't been charged! So I contacted Newegg through their live chat and asked them about my order. They immediately replied "the shipping info is still being verified wait 1-2 more days" I told them that I've been waiting two days and then a few minutes later they put my order through processing and told me it would be shipped the next day.
It didn't get shipped until 5:30 that Wednesday afternoon, which I consider to be 3 business days and it probably wouldn't have been shipped that early if I didn't get on their case.
I also selected express shipping, which was the MOST expensive express shipping I have EVER paid (69.00 for 2 video cards) and I received a tracking number displaying an expedited service.
Expedited is 2 business days while express is next business day and if you don't receive your order before the weekend your money is being wasted because ground would have probably been delivered by Monday morning the following week anyways.
Newegg also uses UPS "World Ease" which supposedly lower the broker fees by shipping large orders at the same time. I've ordered a lot of stuff from US using UPS and have always been happy with their service but this "World Ease" feature sent my (already slow) order half way across US and towards B.C. when every other order I have EVER placed has went directly from LOUISVILLE, KY, US to Winnipeg, MB, CA. This Detour delayed my order from arriving before the weekend
"fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual", Newegg.ca is intentionally offering express shipping and delivering a product that doesn't come close to the same value and this is FRAUD and it is unacceptable!
The customer should not have to put pressure on a business to get their order in a timely matter and in no way should Newegg accept payment on a service they can't deliver.
I needed a certain service and ordered it, so that I could be home for the delivery but now I'm on the road for two weeks and there is no way I can be home to receive my order.
Vendor Response:
Dear Klassius,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review.
Your order did take a day longer than advised to ship and I apologize for any inconvenience this caused you. The information has also been forwarded to the appropriate department for review to prevent this from happening in the future.
The shipping you selected on our site was “UPS Express”. Our website states this as 4-9 business days. You also agreed to this time frame when you placed the order since you agreed to our Terms & Conditions. I do agree that our wording should be changed to alleviate any confusion moving forward and I have sent this too to the appropriate department for review. I spoke to UPS regarding the packages path since I agree going to NJ to WA is out of the way, but they relayed no solid explanation.
So this can be further discussed and your situation further assisted, please contact Joshua at 800-390-1119 ext 25092 or e-mail him at Joshua.L.Key@newegg.com.
Thank You,

Major shipping issues
By: KIDAVENGER
Date: Jan 27, 2010
Comment:
First time ordering from Newegg, their prices were about the same as my local supplier but they have much better selection and stock.
My issue is with their shipping, and it's a major deal breaker, I doubt I would ever buy from them again. My order took 7 days to arrive, I live in a major city and have never had anything take more than 3 days arrive. When it finally did arrive, one of the items(high end video card $300) was already opened and surprise surprise it did not work; I had to pay to ship this item back to them for a replacement which increased it's cost to more than anywhere else would have been. It took 1 day for them to receive it from me(exact same shipping method they used), 2 days to process the return, and now I have a tracking number with an estimated arrival date another week away. This is ridiculous. Extremely disappointed.
Vendor Response:
Dear KIDAVENGER,
Please accept our apology for any inconvenience caused by receiving a defective item. Our website states our shipping time frame and your order was on time, but having to wait 7 days only to have to send the item back and having to wait even more time is certainly disheartening.
In addition, we provide pre-paid return shipping labels for defective products. So your situation can be rectified ASAP, please call Newegg Rep Joshua at 800-390-1119 ext 25092 or e-mail him at Joshua.L.Key@newegg.com.
Thank You,

Good prices on some items, good selection, Many, many item reviews (also check ou their US website for more reviews). My item shipped from US, so it was more costly and took longer than from a Canadian merchant. Also check out Infonec, BestDirect, Dytronix, CanadaComputer, DirectCanada, XpressCanada for computer items. All are good, and offer good prices ... compare !

Extremely Disappointed

Update - The day after submitting this review, a representative from NewEgg contacted me and very easily dealt with the issue.
He suggested that I go out and purchase the missing cord and NewEgg would provide a full credit. Alex (the individual who helped) was very friendly.
NewEgg has won back my business.
*****
I have ordered from NewEgg a number of times, with no issues. However, the true test of an online retailer is how they react when a problem arises. NewEgg failed.
Before I outline the bad, I should point out the good - they responded to my complaint very quickly. However, it was the content of their responses that were upsetting.
I ordered a new monitor from NewEgg. It arrived quickly and when promised. I don't know if it is working order (see below).
Once i removed it from its packaging, it became apparent that the promised, and extremely important, power cord was missing.
As a result, I can't even test out the monitor. It is, at the moment, useless.
After notifying NewEgg, they promptly responded, but without any satisfactory solution.
After the initial response, I was passed on to another department. After initially claiming they had no record of any order by me in the last six months, they have made a vague promise to try and find a cord for me. However, there preferred solution is that I call the manufacturer. Long distance. At my expense.
Still no power for my monitor. Still no solution. Simple problem, but no simple solution.
Unfortunately, I don't believe I will be ordering from NewEgg any longer. Dealing with problems is difficult and futile.

Great Service, Awesome Selection, Pretty Good Prices

I've made almost 15 orders with NewEgg.ca now. They have great selection and you never really have to worry about something being out of stock. Chat support has worked out great, I've used it a few times, responses are immediate and I've never had to wait. Shipping times have been around 3-4 days for most products (which usually ship from their New Jersey warehouse), and about a week sometimes (from their L.A. warehouse). Most of the items I've ordered come from the New Jersey warehouse and end up getting to me quicker than most Canadian owned sites.
The only time I won't use this site is because of a few things:
1) If a Canadian operated site has it much cheaper, I also likely won't have to pay PST from them. NewEgg can't compete with that, they charge full tax no matter of what province.
2) Shipping for heavy items is expensive. UPS is the only option for larger items, and while you don't have to worry about Brokerage fee's (they have them included in the shipping fee already), shipping will still hurt on things like cases or monitors.

Not worh it

Ordered a few times from them without problem, then all of a sudden my zip code is no longer valid. Order item, get charged, day later get voided with multi-reasoned message and no mention of the actual reason - zip code problem. Tried order twice on two different days.
Tried to call there support a few times, no-one answers.
Customer service via e-mail (good luck on a timely response) then tells me: "since the zip code is invalid and UPS cannot ship to that area" and basically contact UPS yourself to sort it out. They didn't even take the time to read the meat of the short message I sent them or they would have known.
Funny thing is I had verified (after the first order attempt) with UPS my zip code is indeed valid and it even shows the UPS depot near my location.
Also, be careful with shipping if you live in an area where free shipping is not available (penny pinchers: most savings you will see with newegg relate to shipping), you can choose ground shipping and see the charges but once you hit the checkout it is changed to air/expedited shipping only, no ground option. I did also check into this and ground shipping is indeed available in my area from the US.
